Washington D.C. Bound
Faith Academy High school student, Mauricio Cano and Hallettsville High School Student, Hannah Drozd will be representing San Bernard EC and Texas in the 2022 Government-in-Action Youth Tour from June 12 to 21. They will first meet up in Austin, alongside 150 Texas participants, and learn about state government before heading to Washington, D.C. where they will join students from across the country. During the trip they will visit the capital, museums, monuments and meet with elected officials from their area.
San Bernard EC practices the seven guiding principles of cooperatives, one of which is education. San Bernard EC is happy to provide education and training for their membership, particularly through youth programs such as the Government in Action Youth Tour. Through educating our youth they learn they can contribute effectively to their rural communities.
Since the Government-In-Action Youth Tour was started in 1965, San Bernard EC has sent over 80 students to Washington DC for this “trip of a lifetime” as described by many alumni. Students have returned with new friends, new appreciation of government, new leadership skills and a better idea of the world outside their hometown.
